Hi, I'm Alex! am a Senior Honors Health Science Major

This project was completed for my honors project. Here, I was able to connect volunteer service through art and the benefits on mental health that follow. As a science student at St. Bonaventure, my escape is through art, both in the form of music and paper to pencil form. I have responded as an Emergency Medical Technician to an overwhelming increase in mental health emergencies both in Metro Detroit Michigan, Allegany NY, and St. Bonaventure University and see the devastating effects that COVID-19 pandemic has caused these communities. Knowing the impacts that art and volunteering can have on the mind, I see a great need for implementing programs that help one’s psychological wellbeing.

 

My background in art comes from High School. As a member of the Art Honors Society, Art Club, and having received my International Baccalaureate Diploma that includes four years of HL (higher level) Visual Arts study,

 

I have been volunteering for the nonprofit organization The Memory Project for 5 years and aim to give individuals the skills needed to volunteer as well.
